The Erasmus team from Stjepan Radić Elementary School at the first meeting of participants of the ARTISTIC JOURNEY TO GREEN FUTURE project in Spain

The first meeting of the participants of the Erasmus+ project ARTISTIC JOURNEY TO GREEN FUTURE was held in Spain from 27 to 30 January in San Vicente de la Barquera, where the Ceip Mata Linares school is located. The Spanish team, which also acts as the project coordinator, was an excellent host. The ceremonial welcome of the participants, monitoring the work of teachers in the classrooms, as well as the three-day working meetings where plans and activities in the project were agreed upon were fruitful and showed that all participants are very motivated and eagerly expect to get started on the tasks in order to bring this two-year international project to its goal. This was also an opportunity for all participants to get to know each other and connect, and judging by the first impressions and joy of the first meeting, the joint journey through the project and 5 countries (Spain, Croatia, Turkey, Malta and Macedonia) will bring new experience and improve the knowledge and educational skills of all those who see in such a project an opportunity for advancement, which is offered not only to educational workers but also to students, parents and the wider community.

Stjepan Radić Elementary School is participating in the Erasmus + project (KA220-SCH) for the first time, and our team was represented by the principal, Tomislav Tomić, prof., class teacher Marijana Curić, prof. and librarian Ivana Čarapina, prof. and dipl. librarian.

Our representatives introduced themselves and gave lectures during the three-day meetings. On the first day, Principal Tomić presented our fabulous Croatia, revealing a series of interesting facts about the beauty and uniqueness of our homeland. He particularly focused on the Neretva region and Metković, its natural beauty and cultural and historical landmarks. At the end of his presentation, he also presented the Stjepan Radić Elementary School, highlighting all the uniqueness and what our school is known for.

Teacher Marijana Curić gave a lecture on the second day of the meeting, presenting the way of working and using the eTwinning platform on the project she coordinates, and as the most experienced and multiple winner of the quality label, she provided useful information and motivated all participants to join the eTwinning community and share their examples of good practice. She emphasized that the ARTISTIC JOURNEY TO GREEN FUTURE project on the eTwinning platform will further increase its visibility and reach a wider audience.

On the third and final day of the working meetings, librarian Ivana Čarapina gave a lecture on the use and presentation of the project on social networks. All projects financed by the European Union should be transparent and visible to the public, and social networks enable this in a fast and efficient way. Librarian Ivana highlighted to the participants all the benefits that social networks provide in the communication and dissemination of the project, and since the Croatian team is responsible for this project activity, the conclusions reached in the discussion were that the project will be presented on the Facebook page, Instagram, and YouTube platforms.

As environmentally literate individuals within the project, we expect all participants to be able to not only identify problems but also be part of the solution, and we want to reach more people and make our voice heard by establishing strong partnerships with 1 university (Turkey), 4 primary schools (Spain, Croatia, Malta, Turkey) and 1 foundation (Macedonia). The project will reveal its originality through environmentally friendly approaches, innovative digital content and applications, and include new learning methods in line with the digital goals of Erasmus+.

Using art as a tool, we aim to nurture children’s love and stewardship of nature, empowering them to participate in shaping the environmental policies of tomorrow. Providing this education from an early age is crucial as it equips children with the skills and acumen needed to make informed decisions in the future. Moreover, our project aims to promote the development of key social and civic skills, including responsibility, communication, collaboration, and the skillful use of digital tools.

The ARTISTIC JOURNEY TO GREEN FUTURE project has begun, and we invite you to follow us, to join us in making this journey unforgettable and special.

Our school Erasmus + team, in addition to pleasant and fruitful meetings, created unforgettable memories from this trip: experiencing the beautiful Spanish places of Sa Vicente da la Barguera, Santillana del Mar, Mazcuerras - an open-air museum with an exhibition; encountering the magical nature and power of the Atlantic Ocean, a unique experience of the Altamira Museum. The canceled flight home allowed our Erasmus team to spend a day walking through Bilbao and exploring the sights of this unique city, especially the Guggenheim Museum.

All Erasmus+ projects take place under the slogan: "Erasmus+: Enriching lives, broadening horizons." We have seen for ourselves that this is true!
