As part of our eTwinning Project, a Joint Teacher and Student Meeting was Held: “Artistic Journey to a Green Future”
Within the scope of the eTwinning project “Artistic Journey to a Green Future,” we held an online meeting with our project partners. Teachers from different provinces of Türkiye and participants from abroad, along with the students involved in the project, showed great interest in the meeting.
During the meeting, the activities carried out throughout the project were evaluated, focusing on how the students’ perspectives toward nature were developed through artistic works. Interactions among students were also fostered to increase their sense of belonging to the project. The students presented their art products made from recycled materials and shared their thoughts on environmental awareness. People have lived in close relation with nature since birth; however, unlike other living beings, they have tended to attempt to control nature by adapting it to their own needs rather than adjusting to environmental conditions. As years passed and technology advanced, people gained even more power to dominate and change the environment. Consequently, resources were used irresponsibly, leading to climate change caused by global warming, which resulted in a range of environmental problems such as floods, forest fires, droughts, and the loss of biodiversity, ultimately disrupting the balance of ecosystems. Therefore, environmental problems have never been more evident in human consciousness, because these issues now threaten the survival of all living beings. Addressing these problems at their source and preparing a livable world for future generations has become humanity’s top agenda. Understanding the seriousness of this universal problem and taking preventive actions will undoubtedly be achieved through education. Our priority is to enhance children’s environmental awareness by fostering their creativity and imagination through art, thereby cultivating an aesthetic appreciation for nature. We expect children with an aesthetic sense to accept and protect the natural and beautiful around them, as well as to recognize elements that disrupt the natural balance and defend against them. In our project, we aim to provide an effective and lasting environmental education by using art as a tool to nurture love and a sense of belonging to nature in children. These children are future decision-makers who will shape their country’s environmental policies, and with this foundational education given at a young age, we hope they grow into individuals who can make informed and responsible choices. The project also aims to contribute to the development of social and civic skills, such as taking responsibility, communicating, collaborating, engaging in discussions, and using digital tools responsibly and effectively.
